Cold front moves lots of rain and cooler temperatures into the southeast

Middle Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – We can finally say it: the cold front is moving through Middle Georgia, and that means fantastic weather to close out our work week.

Temperatures have been quite warm for December, haven’t they? The overnight low this morning was in the 60s — from 61 to 67 as of this writing — and as a comparison, the average high is 63! But that comes to an end as the cold front, which stalled for a while north of us, finally makes its way through our area today.

Here are the changes:

1) Rainfall. From morning through the afternoon, we’ll get occasional showers and isolated downpours. Nothing scary, but definitely something that’ll contribute to more trouble on the road.
2) Lower humidity. Of course, it’s to be expected that with the rain today, you’ll get high humidity. But as you’ll notice on the dew point pictures, moisture will plummet overnight and tomorrow, giving us the drier weather we’ve been waiting for.
3) Change in wind. The warm southwesterly flow changes to a northwesterly flow today. What’s the difference? Southwest winds bring warm, moist air from the Gulf of Mexico. Northwesterly winds help usher into the area cooler, drier air.

High today will be around 67, but expect low 50s tonight and 40 for an overnight low. Highs the next several days will be around 59/60, with lows at or near freezing.
