DNR rangers urges boaters to follow safety rules and regulations
Department of Natural Resources (DNR) state rangers are reminding lake-goers the importance of staying safe.
One of the boating regulations is that no alcohol is allowed on Lake Tobesofekee, but Ranger First Class David Fisher says they still issue some citations to people who choose to drink alcohol while boating.
According to Fisher there is no speed limit while boating on the lake.
Fisher added another regulation is that boats traveling faster than idle speed must be at least 100 feet away from other boats and docks.
“One thing we’re going to be looking for is to make sure that every individual on board the vessel has a life jacket,” explained Fisher.“Not necessarily wearing it but a life jacket on board. As far as those individuals that have to be wearing it, any child under the age of 13 is required to be wearing a life jacket at all times.”
According to a new law, anyone born after January 1, 1998 is required to take a DNR boating education course to operate a boat in Georgia.
An additional law is that all boats must be registered with the DNR and every operator has to have an “ID” on board.
