Milledgeville woman sentenced to life for killing her baby

MILLEDGEVILLE, Geogia (41NBC/WMGT) – A Milledgeville woman accused of killing her baby will serve life in prison plus five years.  Jesica Driskell, 26, was found guilty of felony murder, cruelty to children in the second degree and concealing the death of another.

“It was challenging,” said Asst. District Attorney Stephen Bradley. “The photos of the child are difficult for anybody to look at.”

Milledgeville Police found two-month-old McKenzie Hartry dead at her home on North Lincoln Street on September 3.  A GBI Medical Examiner concluded the cause of death was blunt force trauma to the baby’s head.

Police arrested Driskell and the baby’s father, Tamarus Hartry, on October 18.

“Both parents gave different stories that were inconsistent with the physical evidence,” explained Bradley.  “It was a hard case anytime you are confronted with violence to a child, obviously we take that seriously.  It’s even more difficult when the death was caused by the mother and father of that child.”

Hartry plead guilty to the same charges.  He is awaiting sentencing in the Baldwin County jail.
