The ghost of the Old Governor’s Mansion

MILLEDGEVILLE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT)- Some people believe the historic Old Governor’s Mansion in Milledgeville is haunted.

Only known as “Molly”, the ghost was a cook for the mansion and was famous for baking.

Multiple witnesses say they smelled her cooking throughout the residence.

They say once a smell of burned potatoes was so potent that the fire department was called but nothing was found to cause the smell.

“We don’t know if she is 100 years old or 150, maybe it might be a story someone made up, but it made it in the books of Milledgeville,” Curator Molly Randolph said.

The mansion takes tourists back in time to the old Confederate South as curators have preserved the mansion and many of the artifacts.

Even the mirror Georgia Governor Joseph E. Brown was shaving with ,before Union soldiers captured him, is still in his room.

Tours are available Tuesday-Saturday 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Sundays 2pm-4pm.

All tours begin on the hour.
