Macon-Bibb Officials tour county as part of third strategic planning session
It’s part of four strategic planning sessions. Since the move to a consolidated government, County leaders have been discussing ideas to create a better community.
In the first two sessions, County leaders broke down into smaller groups to talk about what they wanted to see change in Macon-Bibb.
Tuesday, they took a tour to see their projects in the works.
Mayor Robert Reichert said economic development is vital to bringing in higher paying jobs.
“The Medical Center of Central Georgia, Mercer University, as well as the Downtown area provide a lot of employment opportunities. The government is Downtown as well, so, we want to try and connect all of those centers of economic activity,” said Mayor Reichert.
Macon-Bibb Commissioner Larry Schlesinger wants to focus on the run down and abandoned properties.
“It’s in District 2. It’s in other districts. We just need to address it effectively and have it be part of this strategic plan,” said Commissioner Schlesinger.
The University of Georgia Carl Vinson Institute of Government is working with Macon-Bibb leaders to ensure a successful strategic planning.
“They’re taking a very deep look at how to address those issues that are important and how they impact their citizens in the community. I think they’re doing an incredible job,” said Mara Register, the Public Service Assistant for Carl Vinson Institute of Government.
