Another Ethics Complaint filed against Milledgeville City Council Member

MILLEDGEVILLE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Walter Reynolds was the only Council Member not included in the first ethics complaint, which accused the board of holding an illegal meeting.

Some Milledgeville citizens believe he started the meeting in question and violated the Code of Ethics when he released what was discussed in executive session.

Iva Griffin was one of the citizens who filed the complaint against Reynolds.

“They’re not supposed to release executive session work until it’s time to release it, and it wasn’t time,” said Griffin.

The complaint accuses Reynolds of started the conversation about whether city funds should be moved from Century Bank and Trust to Wells Fargo.

Reynolds is also accused of conspiring with other people. The complaint refers to those individuals as “co-conspirators”.

Reynolds denies any wrongdoing.

“There’s not a conspiracy to frame the other members of council. The idea that I coached them into saying anything is absurd,” noted Reynolds.

Reynolds said the recorded conversation happened after executive session adjourned and it was never part of that closed meeting.

The Milledgeville City Council is also trying to appoint a new ethics board, which they have to do by law.

Some believe it would be a conflict of interest for the board to make these appointments to the committee, since an ethics complaint is filed against every council member.

The board is waiting to see if it can allow a third party to appoint an ethics board that will review these pending complaints.
