MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Middle Georgia law enforcement officials say having good officers is vital to any agency.

It has been a factor among in several Bibb County Sheriff’s Deputies being terminated recently.
Some are facing federal corruption charges, another accused of molesting a child, and yet another accused of insubordination.

But, Bibb County Sheriff, David Davis says he was aware of the fired deputies infractions they acquired while working as Macon Police officers.

Davis says there are ethics policies in place for the 640 employees of Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.

“We have ethics training that the deputies are suppose to take, and so that’s part of one of our policies, that the deputies will receive ethics training once each year,” said Davis.

When people see Bibb County Sheriff’s cars, Sheriff Davis wants them to know that his deputies are trained to serve and protect.

The manager of the Georgia Public Safety Training Center, Mike Barton says there are officers, who have no moral character.

“I have been a police officer for 42 years,” says Barton. “I have never seen a bad cop. Let me tell you what I’ve seen. I’ve seen people that slipped under our radar that joined our profession that come into this discipline that were crooks, thugs, rapist, liars, they had no foundation for ethics at all.”

Barton says bad officers don’t last long in the law enforcement profession.

There are sixty six cadets enrolled at the training center. Barton says they are being taught basic honesty and to have core values.
