New hospice center opens in Macon
Workers describe it is a place where the terminally ill can make a peaceful and respectful transition.
Hospice care at the new facility is for patients who need around the clock health care supervision.
They have a doctor and four registered nurses along with four nursing assistance on staff.
The executive director, Jacquita Blount says Optum has been in Macon for seven years before opening the new hospice center.
“We’re humbled and honored to do the work of hospice care,” says Blount. “We recognize that patients who are facing a serious illness deserve to have a place that’s homelike, to allow for their families to also be apart of their care that they receive. we decided that this facility would really be that kind of facility for those patients and their families.”
The new hospice care facility features a nurses station, lobby, kitchen and eleven bedroom suites, which includes bathrooms and flat screen televisions..
