UPDATE: Recaptured Bibb County inmate dies at hospital
Deputies are searching for 20-year- old Ha’Keem Barrett.
UPDATE: The Bibb County inmate who escaped custody Friday night and was then recaptured has now died. Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones tells 41NBC that Ha’Keem Romaire Barrett, passed away this morning at Atrium Health Navicent at 5:57am due to hypothermia and complications of diabetes. Coroner Jones says he is awaiting word from the GBI to see if they will do an autopsy

UPDATE: Lieutenant Sean Defoe with the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office says the deputy on guard at the hospital with inmate Ha’Keem Barrett, has been put on administrative leave pending an internal investigation.
Lt. Defoe says this is part of the Sheriff’s Office policy from its Office of Professional Standards.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Escaped inmate, Ha’Keem Romaire Barrett, was located Sunday morning and is currently receiving medical treatment.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, 20-year- old Ha’Keem Barrett left the hospital around 4:00 Friday night. Deputies say Barrett was at the hospital for a medical issue, and he became sick in his hospital room. While using the restroom, deputies say Barrett climbed through the ceiling and made his way to an adjacent hallway. He then fled and was last seen running toward High Street.
The Macon-Bibb 911 Center received a call from Barrett’s sister at around 6:47a.m., Sunday morning. Investigators determined that Barrett showed up at his sister’s home on Bloomfield Road in civilian clothes and was reported to be sick. Soon after arriving at his sister’s residence, Barrett became unresponsive and she contacted the Macon-Bibb 911 Center.
EMS and Bibb Deputies responded and Barrett was transported to the hospital by ambulance. Barrett is currently listed to be in critical condition.
Barrett was in jail for Armed Robbery and Aggravated Assault charges. Additional charges will be issued in reference to Barrett fleeing from the hospital.
