Former Westside Standout Heading to Tennessee to Play Football
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A former Westside football player is heading to Rocky Top!
Owen Williams played defensive tackle for the Seminoles. He graduated in 2011 and spent last season at Butler Community College in Kansas, where he had 48 tackles and 15.5 tackles for loss.
He’ll add some depth to a Tennessee defensive line next season that simply struggled this year.
Originally, he planned to go to Texas Tech, but after visiting Coach Butch Jones and staff up in Knoxville, he had a change of heart.
“They’re down to Earth,” Williams says. “They keep it real. They’re people I can learn stuff from and make me a better person.”
According to Rivals.com, Williams is a three-star prospect. The Vols also signed two four stars Wednesday: wide receiver Von Pearson and offensive lineman Dontavius Blair.
