MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT)- Georgia House Democrats held a community discussion at Greater Hill Zion Baptist Church in Macon on Monday, Oct. 12, to discuss issues affecting residents across Middle Georgia.

Lawmakers discussed affordable housing, auto insurance, veterans’ tax exemptions, disability, phone scams and literacy.

State Rep. Tangie Herring, who represents House District 145, said Democrats are focused on issues that affect people’s everyday lives.

“We’ve always been on the side of the people. We talked about healthcare, we’ve talked about housing, we’ve talked about education. We’ve talked about everything that concerns people, not only in Middle Georgia, but across the state,” Herring said.

Herring also said she is running for reelection and has passed four bills focused on housing, education and taxes. She said lawmakers continue working to address the needs of people across the state.

State Reps. Floyd Griffin, Anissa Jones and Miriam Paris also attended the discussion, along with Georgia House Democratic Caucus Policy Co-Chair David Wilkerson.

During the event, lawmakers encouraged residents to participate in the voting process.

“We got to get out to the polls and vote, and we got to vote for those people who look out for our interests,” said Griffin, who represents House District 149.

The discussion gave residents an opportunity to hear directly from state lawmakers about issues affecting their communities.
