Blumenthal Starts Season With Bobcat Athlete of the Week Award

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. (GCSU RELEASE) – Ryan Blumenthal (Kennesaw, Ga.) of the Georgia College men’s basketball team notched his first Bobcat Athlete of The Week honor with his impressive 19.7 points per game to kick off the 2013-14 season for the Bobcats.

The sophomore shooting guard began the season with 18 points in the home opener against Clark Atlanta University, hitting 10 of 11 free throws on the night. Blumenthal continued his hot hand into the weekend, playing in the Paine College Classic. Friday, Nov. 15 the sophomore gave 20 points for the Bobcats against Albany State University, knocking 4 of his 5 attempts at the charity stripe. The next night Blumenthal hit five three-pointers on his way to a 21-point game, in a winning effort against Paine.

The Bobcats’ shooting guard ranks seventh in the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) in threes made with seven and eighth in minutes played per game with 34.3. Blumenthal has a 42.2 field goal percentage along with a 35 three-point percentage.

The Georgia College men’s basketball team will be back in action Monday, Dec. 2 at Francis Marion University and their next home contest will be Monday, Dec. 16 against Anderson University.
