Ecclestone: No Mexico or New Jersey Races in 2014
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) – Formula One boss Bernie Ecclestone says plans for a race in Mexico and a second U.S. race in New Jersey won’t happen in 2014.
Both races have been on Formula One’s provisional 2014 calendar. Ecclestone said Saturday that while he still wants to race at both locations, they won’t happen before 2015.
The 2014 race calendar will be finalized Dec. 6.
Speaking at the U.S. Grand Prix, Ecclestone said Formula One is nearing an agreement for the Mexico Grand Prix, but the site still needs a track to be built. As for the proposed Grand Prix of America in New Jersey, which was planned as a road circuit, Ecclestone said that race is farther away from having an agreement.
Ecclestone did not provide details, but said he’s “100 percent” committed to working with both sites to stage races in the future.
