GC Volleyball Drops Match Against Francis Marion

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. (GCSU RELEASE) – The Georgia College women’s volleyball team (4-22, 1-15 PBC) battled but could not prevail against the Francis Marion University Patriots (19-6, 10-4 PBC) Friday night, 3-1 in the Centennial Center.

The Bobcats fell in the first set 25-15, but fought back to take the second set 25-23. Unfortunately, they were unable to keep the momentum, losing the third and fourth sets 25-19.

The team looked to spread the ball out tonight and did just that, having three players with double-digit kills. Rachel Reynolds (Marietta, Ga.) led with 16, followed by Caroline Long (Roswell, Ga) with a season high of 15. Rounding off the three was Haley Ashworth (Cumming, Ga.) with 10. The Bobcats were close behind on hitting percentage with .208 to the Patriots .299.

Ashworth recorded a season high of 14 digs for the Bobcats. Caroline Ham (Marietta, Ga.) also added 14, for a total of 52 for the team. Ashworth recorded a double-double, which is the first in her career.

Blocks for both sides played a major factor in the match. The Patriots recorded seven total team blocks to the Bobcats’ two. Emily Sears led the Patriots with 17 kills. She was aided by Alexzandra Reed and Megan Mooney, both with 12 and Jessica Imbimbo with 10. Imbimbo had the most digs with 19 and Rebekah Davis accompanied her with 13.

The Bobcats fall to 1-15 in PBC play, with the top eight advancing to the PBC Tournament in mid-November. The Bobcats have fallen out of the running for the PBC Tournament after needing to win this match against Francis Marion.

The Bobcats next match will be tomorrow, Nov. 9 at home against UNC Pembroke at 2 p.m.
