Family Claiming Recovered Matisse
LONDON (AP) – A lawyer for the family of a late Parisian art dealer says he is making a formal claim on a painting by Henri Matisse found amid a trove of more than 1,400 artworks in Germany.
Chris Marinello, who represents the descendants of dealer Paul Rosenberg, says the Matisse portrait of a sitting woman was stolen from the family by the Nazis.
Marinello, the director of Art Recovery International, said Wednesday he is “in the process of submitting a claim letter for the Matisse.”
German prosecutors announced Tuesday they had recovered hundreds of works by top artists and others in the Munich apartment of an elderly man.
