GC Cross Country Gears Up for NCAA Regionals

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. (GCSU RELEASE) – The Georgia College cross country team will travel to Charlotte, N.C. Saturday, Nov. 9 to compete in the NCAA Southeast Regionals. The women will run their third 6K race of the season, while the men will face their first 10K race.

The women’s team is coming off an eighth place finish at the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Championships Oct. 26. All five Bobcat scorers posted top-10 times in the school recordbooks, with sophomore Rachel Pasko (Jefferson, Ga.) breaking the school record by six seconds. Classmate Taylor Roeck (Cumming, Ga.) posted the third fastest time in Georgia College history to go along with four top-10 individual performances throughout the season. The fifth best time in school history was set by Lena White (Smyrna, Ga.) who came the closest to winning an individual title this season, posting three second place finishes.

The team has finished in the top-5 in all but one race this season, with their lone team title coming at the Bridgestone-Pacer Invitational Oct. 4.

The men’s squad fared a little better at the PBC Championships, placing fifth out of 10 teams. They were led by sophomore Michael Warrick (Marietta, Ga.), who’s time was only one second shy of setting the Georgia College 8K record. Three other Bobcats posted times good enough for top-10 in school history, including Trevor Turner (Snellville, Ga.), Paul McNeil (Dunwoody, Ga.) and James Ryden (Atlanta). All three men won an individual title for the Bobcats this season.

The Georgia College men finished in the top-5 in all six of their races this season, winning team titles three separate times throughout the season.

The men’s team finished 14th out of 26 teams at the 2012 NCAA Regionals, while the women took ninth place in the 27-team field.

The women will run their 6K race at 10:30 a.m., with the men following them at 11:30 a.m. Both races will be held at McAlpine Creek Park in Charlotte, N.C.
