GC Volleyball Falls in Three at USC Aiken

AIKEN, S.C. (GCSU RELEASE) – The Georgia College volleyball squad (4-20, 1-13 PBC) dropped a road Peach Belt Conference (PBC) contest Wednesday at USC Aiken (16-8, 8-5 PBC) in three sets, 25-16, 25-17 and 25-19.

“Our passer struggled tonight and it was tough for our attackers to get hot,” said head coach Gretchen Krumdieck. “We are turning the page and looking forward to hitting the court the rest of the week.”

Freshman Rachel Reynolds (Marietta, Ga.) led the attack with just seven kills; the next closest was three each for Blake Willoughby (Savannah, Ga.) and Caroline Long (Roswell, Ga.).

Caroline Ham (Marietta, Ga.) led the Bobcats with 20 of the team’s 50 digs, and got help with 10 from Ashton Bigler (Fairborn, Ga.). Setter Micayla Patterson (Tyrone, Ga.) tallied 17 assists.

The Bobcat attack had trouble punching through a locked-down Pacer defense, as Georgia College hit a -.008 clip to the Pacers’ .136.

USCA didn’t put anyone in double-digit kills either, with the team-high coming from Ashley Diedrich at nine. They did record 7.5 team blocks to Georgia College’s three, Endea Ellison and Leah Rodgers tying for the team lead at four each.

The Bobcats fall to 1-13 in PBC play, tied for ninth in the conference standings, with the top eight advancing to the PBC Tournament in mid-November. UNC Pembroke owns a two-match lead in the win column at the eight position and the Bobcats have four conference matches to go.

GC volleyball is back in action Saturday, Nov. 2 at 2 p.m., traveling to Lander University (16-8, 6-7 PBC). The Bearcats most recently beat Anderson University 3-1 Oct. 29.
