Former Macon Policeman Sentenced to Months in Jail

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A former Macon police officer pleaded guilty today to stealing guns, and was sentenced to six months in jail, and ordered to pay a thousand dollar fine.

Jonathan Graves was arrested in February of this year, and charged with two counts of fiduciary theft and violation of oath of office.

After he stole two guns recovered from an investigation, he told police they were lost, and then gave one to his father and one to sister.

District Attorney for the Macon Judicial Circuit David Cooke added, the Macon Police Department has a reputation to uphold, and any officer should take their responsibility seriously.

“I think they’ll see that everybody is accountable and everybody is going to be held to a tough standard, particularly, those who carry a badge. If you carry a badge and you violate the law, you will do time,” says Cooke.

Cooke adds this case will send a clear the message to the community, and to the rest of the Macon Police Department.
