Warner Robins Man Honored for Service

WARNER ROBINS, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A Warner Robins man, who’s dedicated his life to service, was honored Tuesday, and says he wants to continue helping those in need.

Service to others is the rent you pay for your room here on Earth…Muhammad Ali said that.

For Clyde Cunningham, service is the only thing he’s ever known.

The 84-year-old is apart of seven different non-profit organizations, and says all he wants to do is help.

“Help our neighbors, help our friends, help people who I don’t know who they are, but that’s not my concern. I just help where I can help,” Cunningham said.

Reverend John Thomas and his wife, Isadora, realized Cunningham’s body of work and also thought they needed to do something to show their gratitude for the man who’s meant so much in Warner Robins.

“We wanted to honor Clyde and his deceased wife for the things that he’s done in the community. Not only our building, our community service center, homeless shelter, but he’s done it for various organizations, about 6 or 7 different organizations,” Thomas said.

So they dedicated a building at the Community Outreach Service Center, honoring Clyde and his late wife, Myrtle Cunningham.

“I’m just a servant doing God’s work,” Cunningham said.

A Haven for the Homeless…a place for women and children in need.

Dozens of friends and family came to support Clyde’s big day.

He said he hopes his wife is smiling down from heaven.

And Clyde also had a special message to share with people who are hesitant to volunteer.

“Get away from yourself, don’t be so selfish, share who you are and share what you have. The talents that you have, share that with those around you.”
