Permanent Street Closures Considered in Macon’s Triple Triangle Park Planning

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Community members and local leaders are considering permanent street closures, in order to connect the parks in the College Hill Corridor.

About two months ago, organizers developed the Triple Triangle Park plan. The outline aims at creating a common theme between Daisy, High Street and Tower Parks. Architects are working to use similar signage, walkways and fencing to build a common feel amongst the parks in the College Hill Corridor. Each park would be given an individual identity—with Daisy Park as the play area, Tower Park as the green space, and High Street Park would be reserved for a gathering place.

On Tuesday, W.T Designs, the College Hill Corridor and community members met for the second time to discuss the traffic surrounding the Triple Triangle Park. So far, possible street closures have been suggested to put the brakes on neighborhood traffic.

“But by large, I think everybody feels that by taking away the out of neighborhood traffic, by closing some streets, it would be a better neighborhood and we can enhance the opportunities with these parks,” said W.T. Design’s landscape architect Wimberly Treadwell.

As of right now, the proposal involves closing the very end of Spring Street and Daisy Park Lane. The Knight Neighborhood Challenge is assisting in the funding.
