MACON, Georgia. (41NBC/WMGT) – Sunny skies and cool temperatures are carrying into the start of the new week.

Today

Overview 11 15 Cool Monday Cool And Breezy Wind From The SouthLows 11 15

The cool conditions from the weekend are continuing into Monday. Northwest wind at about 5-10 mph with gusts around 15 mph will continue to feed the Georgia atmosphere with cool and dry air. This pattern carried through the weekend, but will change beginning tonight. For this afternoon, however, high temperatures will climb into the mid to upper 60s, a few degrees warmer than the day before. Temperatures will not stay very warm long however, with temperatures in the mid 40s returning not long after sundown. Tonight’s lows will be slightly warmer than the past few days however thanks to the light change mentioned above. That would be a change in the surface wind direction from the northwest to the southwest, allowing moisture to return to the Georgia atmosphere. Low temperatures around Middle GA tonight will be in the upper 30s to low 40s.

Tomorrow

Overview 11 16 Wind Southwest Warmer Tomorrow

Thanks to the change in wind direction there will be decent jump in temperature between Monday’s and Tuesday’s highs. Outside of that there isn’t much change between the two days. The skies will remain mostly clear across Middle GA on Tuesday with only a few small clouds potentially forming. North Georgia will see some more high level cloud coverage thanks to a weak storm system off to the north. High temperatures in Middle GA will climb into the low to mid 70s, about 5-10 degrees warmer than Monday. Low temperatures overnight will also be warmer as wind continues to blow out of the south-southwest, only falling into the mid 40s across the region.

Wednesday

Overview 11 17

The southerly winds will take a slight shift to the east heading into Wednesday, now blowing at about 5 mph from the south-southeast. This isn’t going to affect much, continuing to feed the Georgia atmosphere with Atlantic moisture. Cloud cover will still be hard to come by on Wednesday until shortly before sunset. High temperatures will continue to increase, now topping off in the mid to upper 70s around the region, well above average for this time of year. Overnight clouds will fill in a bit, but it most certainly will not be blanket conditions. Despite this, there will be enough cloud cover, especially when combined with south winds, to insulate Middle GA overnight and allow low temperatures to only fall into the upper 40s and low 50s, more than 10 degrees warmer than Monday night.

Finally The Rain Chances

Thursday will bring the one chance Middle GA has at rain this week, but overall it remains low. The rain is expected to remain to the north of the region on Thursday, meaning that at this time only northern cities such as Forsyth, Gray, and Macon have realistic chances to see rain this week. The wind will return to the northwest Thursday night ahead of clearer conditions and cooler conditions on Friday.
