Macon Council Wants Solution to Closed Pools Problem
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Some Macon City Council members say they’re ready to work with the county to help open up the remaining closed pools.
Council met Tuesday afternoon in a worksession about the issue. Last week, council and the county commission were in a dispute over who to blame for three of the county’s six pools not being open yet.
The county took over Parks and Rec last year, but commissioners say the city left the pools in bad shape, which caused delays for repairs.
Councilwoman Elaine Lucas says it’s time to stop pointing fingers and work together for the benefit of the community.
“We have got to find ways to make sure that those services are provided so that our kids are safe and they have wholesome, supervised activities to be involved in,” says Lucas.
Lucas applauded the county’s efforts Tuesday to make the open pools more accessible, but she and councilman Henry Ficklin are concerned about the county’s decision to bus kids from one neighborhood to another.
They both said that could cause more problems.
