Local Celebrities Rake in Almost $12,000 Waiting Tables
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A few local celebrities traded in their day jobs Tuesday night to help fight domestic violence, and they raised almost $12,000 in just four hours.
The 2nd annual “Appetites for Advocacy” was put on by the Crisis Line and Safe House of Central Georgia.
Local celebrities teamed up with servers at Cheddar’s Casual Cafe on Riverside Drive to ask for donations and spread awareness of the cause.
The special servers included Bibb County Sheriff David Davis, District Attorney David Cooke and State Representative Nikki Randall.
“It is important for people to know that domestic violence is not just a stereotypical person,” says president of the board of directors for CLSHCG, Holly Reeves. “It crosses every socio-economic route, every religion, gender and race.”
CLSHCG’s executive director says it’s important for victims of violence to speak out.
“As we begin to recognize and become more aware of crimes of domestic violence and sexual assault, we empower victims to speak out themselves,” says Dee Simms. “And they should.”
Tuesday’s top server was District Attorney David Cooke. He raised about $6,000 all on his own, nearly half of the $11,800 total.
If you’re a victim of violence, you can call the 24-hour crisis hotline at (478) 745-9292.
