Authorities Investigate Dog Abuse Cases
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Animal abuse investigators are questioning people in the Peach Orchard neighborhood of Bibb County after a local rescue group found two severely abused dogs. Rescue group leaders believe gangs could be behind the violence and they are taking legal action to find out who is behind it.
“I can’t explain what human would do something like this,” Sara Roberts, the president of animal rescue group Paws and Adopt, said.
Cain is a six-month old dog who is recovering at the Forsyth Road Animal Clinic after he was found on Tuesday. Roberts says the scars on his back and head are from chemical burns.
“He looks like he had healed from some of his injuries and some of them are still not healed, so he was in a lot of pain for probably a few days until we found him,” she said.
Roberts works in the animal abuse division of the Bibb County District Attorney’s Office. She says reports are filed and authorities are investigating more possible abuse cases.
“I have talked to someone there in Peach Orchard and they claim they have seen another dog that has been burned like this,” Roberts said. “They don’t know if its gangs out there, some kind of initiation or what, but they have seen that before.”
Cain is the second abused dog found in that area in less than one week. Roberts says Scarlett has a cut around her neck that probably came from a cord or collar that was imbedded in her fur.
“[If] we find enough information, I’ll be glad to prosecute and go forward with it to the fullest extent of the law cause its just ridiculous and inhumane,” Roberts said.
She added it is important to report any animal abuse. Roberts urges everyone to spay and neuter your pets to help prevent any future abuse cases.
“All those unwanted dogs that are running around the streets are the ones they will grab a lot of the times and just abuse because they’re nobody’s dogs.”
Both Cain and Scarlett are doing just fine, but veterinarians say it will take a while for their injuries to heal. Roberts says they will then move into foster homes until they find their forever home.
