Macon-Bibb Elections Officially Postponed, No Date Set
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Macon-Bibb County Board of Elections made it official Friday: There will be no elections in July.
The board met less than half an hour behind closed doors before it made the decision, just days after the U.S. Department of Justice asked legislators to explain why the elections were being moved from November to July and being made non-partisan.
Candidates who planned on running in the July election will now have to re-qualify, but board members say they can get a refund of their qualifying fees if they wish.
No election date was set. Board members say they’re waiting on a final decision from the DOJ.
