Missing Macon Man Found Dead in Cemetery

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — The search for 71-year-old David Mann came to an end at 11:45am Thursday when investigators found his body.

“I don’t know what else could have been done. This obviously didn’t end the way we had wished or prayed it did,” said Sergeant Richard Senter, Macon Police.

After nearly two days of searching mann, Senter says police discovered his body in a wooded area toward at the north end Riverside Cemetery.

“We got a tip this morning that there were some articles of clothing near the back part of this cemetery. We came out and look at them and found them to be David Mann’s,” said Skinner.

The search began Tuesday afternoon. Mann’s wife told police her husband went missing when he was following her home from a doctor’s appointment…

On Wednesday morning, police found his van abandoned inside the south end of Riverside Cemetery. Police treated the search with extreme urgency because Mann was a diabetic without any insulin with him.

“I’m very proud of the response that our department did,” said Senter.

MPD called in agencies from around the area including bloodhounds from Warner Robins and Twiggs County, and the national guard. The Georgia State Patrol joined the search from the air.

While it wasn’t the outcome they’d hoped for, Senter says he’s proud to work with a force of people who did their best to serve and protect in this situation.

“We’d liked to express our condolences to the family,” said Senter.

Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones says Mann’s body was sent for an autopsy. Senter says at this time police believe Mann went into a diabetic coma before he died.
