DUBLIN, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — Dublin is under a boil water advisory Wednesday after a major water main break forced the city to shut down water production and caused several closures.

Mayor Joshua Kight said a 16-inch water line broke on Joiner Street Tuesday night. Water production was shut down so utility crews could repair the line.

“They have been out there all night without rest working hard to repair this issue,” Kight said. “Our town is under a boil water advisory until we can get the water back flowing.”

Dublin City Hall is closed until water service is restored.

Municipal Court proceedings at 346 South Jefferson Street are also on hold. The 9 a.m. court session was canceled, and the city said it would provide an update on the 2 p.m. arraignment session.

“I apologize for the disruption this water issue is causing to our residents, schools and businesses,” Kight said. “Please know that we’re doing everything possible to get service restored quickly.”

All Dublin City Schools are closed Wednesday for students and staff.

The district said the City of Dublin notified it about the break at 5:11 a.m. After speaking with city officials, the district determined water service would not be restored until well into the afternoon.

“We expect the situation to be resolved today and classes to resume tomorrow,” the district said. “Should that change, we will communicate any updates as quickly as possible.”

Laurens County Schools separately announced that West Laurens Middle School is closed Wednesday because of a water main break affecting the school.

The district did not say when it expects the problem to be fixed.

“Additional information regarding the status of school operations for Thursday, August 20 will be communicated to families and staff as it becomes available,” the Laurens County School District said.
