Kingston Announces Bid for U.S. Senate Seat

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A current Georgia congressman announced his bid for the U.S. Senate in Macon on Friday.

Representative Jack Kingston of Savannah says he could easily stay in the House of Representatives, but wants to take on the Senate. He says Georgia needs to keep bases, like Robins, relevant to national security needs as well as turn the economy around by removing government regulations on businesses.

Kingston calls himself frugal and hopes to bring his budget cutting experience with him to the Senate.

“Bringing that kind of work ethic to the U.S. Senate is very important when it is a body that hasn’t passed a budget in four years,” Kingston said. “So many pieces of great legislation die in the Senate that I think somebody who is a hard worker, somebody who is frugal, somebody who is conservative will really be a positive force.”

Kingston hopes to fill the Senate seat that will be left empty when Republican Saxby Chambliss steps down. He’s facing Republican Paul Brown of Athens and Phil Gingrey of Marietta.
