BCSO: Man out on bond in homicide case caught with pound of marijuana, loaded firearm

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A man released on bond after being arrested in connection to a 2019 homicide investigation was caught with a pound of marijuana and a loaded firearm Wednesday afternoon.

That’s according to a Bibb County Sheriff’s Office news release, which said the Sheriff’s Office’s Special Response Team was patrolling Hillcrest Avenue around 3 p.m. when deputies observed a vehicle without a license plate near Wilmar Drive.

Deputies made contact with the driver of the vehicle, 26-year-old Brandon Matthew Tyler, during a traffic stop.

Deputies say when they ran Tyler’s information through the Georgia Crime Information Center, they learned he had three active bench warrants for his arrest.

The bench warrants were in connection to a homicide investigation from 2019. Tyler was arrested in June of that year and released on $110,200 bond in January of 2020.

On April 21 of this year, Tyler was indicted on charges of murder, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm by a first offender.

Once deputies took Tyler into custody, they say they found about a pound of marijuana and a loaded firearm in his possession.

He was taken to the Bibb County Jail for the three bench warrants and also charges of possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute, possession of a firearm during the commission of certain felonies, and possession of a firearm by first offender.

He also had a felony probation violation. He is currently being held without bond.
