Russell Simmons Leads Celebrities In Drug Law Reform
LOS ANGELES (AP) – Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj, Natalie Maines and Ani DiFranco are among the musicians who have joined Russell Simmons’ campaign calling on President Barack Obama to reform America’s drug laws. Simmons assembled a coalition of celebrities that calls for replacing jail sentences with intervention and rehab for nonviolent offenders. They want Obama to form a panel to handle clemency requests and allow for judges to waive mandatory minimum sentences. Other celebrities who signed onto the campaign include Estelle, LL Cool J, Busta Rhymes, Ludacris, Chuck D, Ice-T, John Legend and OutKast.
