Baldwin County Deputies Arrest Suspected Counterfeiter

MILLEDGEVILLE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Baldwin County sheriff’s deputies arrested a man accused of spending thousands of dollars using fake $100 bills.

Captain Brad King tells 41 NBC deputies arrested 22-year-old Allen Jermaine Johnson in Conyers on Friday. The sheriff’s office tracked Johnson using social media and a rental car company.

41 NBC first told you about the counterfeit operation after Johnson was caught on surveillance cameras buying $4,700 worth of money orders using the fake bills.

King says Johnson spent $6,000 using counterfeit $100 bills in the Baldwin County area. Since September, he’s spent $30,000 using the fake bills all across the state.

These bills are part of a much bigger nationwide counterfeit operation and the sheriff’s office is working with the Secret Service.

“For each bill that we have, for each individual serial number, there is 1,000 copies of that particular bill [that has] either been recovered or in circulation in 20 different states, so we’re looking at a very, very large operation,” King told 41 NBC.

King says Johnson is from Brooklyn, New York and he still has ties to that area. King couldn’t say what happens next in the investigation, but did say investigators are taking it to the next level.

Johnson is charged with forgery and is currently booked in the Baldwin County jail.
