Neighbor Not Happy with Warner Robins Dog Park
WARNER ROBINS, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Some Warner Robins residents said a new dog park will bring unwanted noise and traffic to their neighborhood.
The new park is expected to be built near Wellston Trail on Spruce Street. Joe Taylor and his wife live on Spruce Street and feel like this park is just too close to home.
“I’m not too concerned about the noise that much but I am concerned about the smell and I know people,” Taylor said.
About three weeks back, Taylor and his neighbors received a letter from the city stating it’s “intentions to create a public Dog Park in your area”. He believes his neighborhood should have been including in the planning process before the idea got off the ground.
“This is the fastest I’ve seen the city move on anything,” Taylor said.
The park set to open on a trial basis with enforced rules and regulations. Parking will be on the Corder Road side of Wellston Trail. The area will be fenced in and only open during the day. Loud or aggressive dogs will not be admitted. Dogs must be monitored and owners are responsible for cleaning up after their pets. The city of Warner Robins will regulate the park. If these rules are abused, Warner Robins City Council member Paul Shealy said the park will be taken away.
“If it doesn’t work and turns out to be a nuisance, the city won’t participatee,” Shealy said.
He also said the city is welcoming comments and suggestions from neighbors regarding the park.
“The main thing is letting neighbors know, people and residents in the area know that we are really going to put our best foot forward,” Shealy said.
The park is expected to be up and running in 4 to 6 weeks. If the project is successful, Shealy said the city isn’t opposed to more dog parks in the near future. Residents said they plan to voice their concerns this Saturday. Shealy plans to attend.
