GSP: Uvalda man killed, another seriously injured in Pulaski County crash

GSP’s preliminary investigation says a pickup pulling a cattle trailer ran a red light and struck a tractor-trailer carrying feed corn.

PULASKI COUNTY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — A 75-year-old Uvalda man died and another man was seriously injured Tuesday in a crash involving two trucks pulling livestock and feed trailers in Pulaski County.

Georgia State Patrol identified the man who died as Fred Hitchcock. Troopers said the injured driver is 22 and also of Uvalda.

Troopers responded around 11:05 a.m. to the intersection of GA 27 and GA 26.

According to GSP’s preliminary investigation, a Volvo tractor-trailer carrying feed corn was traveling south on GA 27 and entered the left-turn lane. Troopers said its driver attempted to turn left onto GA 26 with a green arrow.

GSP said the northbound Dodge Ram 2500, which was pulling a trailer carrying cattle, continued through a red light and struck the right side of the Volvo’s trailer. The pickup continued underneath the trailer, trapping its driver and passenger.

The Pulaski County coroner pronounced Hitchcock, a passenger in the Dodge, dead at the scene.

Emergency crews freed the driver of the Dodge before he was flown to a Macon hospital. GSP said he was listed in serious condition.

Troopers said the Volvo driver is 74. They did not reveal the extent of his injuries or condition.
