Students Wear Hats To Raise Childhood Cancer Awareness
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Students across the Peach State broke school uniform rules on Friday, but it was for a good cause.
The Jay’s Hope Foundation held its sixth annual Hats 4 HOPE fundraiser to raise childhood cancer awareness. Students at Alexander Two Magnet School in Bibb County paid a dollar so they could wear a hat during the school day. All the money raised goes toward helping local families who are battling childhood cancer.
“People mistaken it as a rare disease and right here in Middle Georgia, three to four children are diagnosed each month,” Cindy Gaskins with the Jay’s Hope Foundation said. “There are children in every community battling cancer.”
More than 90 schools across Georgia participated in this year’s fundraiser. The Jay’s Hope Foundation says last year it raised 38 thousand dollars for local families.
