Bibb County Participates in Prescription Drug ‘Take Back’ Day

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office joined forces with the Drug Enforcement Administration to offer people a safe way to dispose of unused or expired prescription drugs.

According to the sheriff’s office, more than 60 pounds of pharmaceuticals were collected on Saturday. Boxes were set up outside of the Walmart on Zebulon Road to allow residents a place to drop off drugs, no questions asked.

Cash Stanley is a retired physician who says his sample drugs have accumulated over the years.

“I have a huge stack of leftover medicine that drug reps have given me, so I brought them here,” Stanley said.

Gisela Cramer wanted to make sure her drugs were safe and out of harms way.

“I just don’t want to throw them in the sink or in the toilet, I don’t want the water to be contaminated,” Cramer said.

This is the fifth National Take Back Day. Last year, the state of Georgia collected 6,993 pounds of drugs over all.
