Middle Georgia Unemployment Rates Are Increasing
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Middle Georgia’s unemployment rates are up in the month of July but the jobless should not give up hope.
According to the Georgia Department of Labor, here in Middle Georgia area, unemployment rose to 10 percent, up three-tenths of a percentage point from 9.7 percent in June. The rate was 10.3 percent in July, 2011.
The rate increased because there were 510 layoffs in manufacturing, construction, trade, transportation and warehousing, administrative and support services, health care and social assistance, and accommodations and food services.
The state’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate increased to 9.3 percent this month, which is up three-tenths of a percentage point from 9.0 percent in June. The jobless rate was 10 percent in July a year ago.
For those job seekers willing to travel, a free Veterans Career Fair & Diversity Job Expo will be held on Thursday from 10 am to 2 pm at the Morrow Center located at Southlake Mall. Over 30 human resource managers will be looking to fill over 500 positions at dozens of different companies.
