T-SPLOST Success for Heart Of Georgia, Supporters Say The Tax Is Worth It

Regions across the state are looking forward after voters passed the T-SPLOST.

The Heart of Georgia region is only one of three regions across the state to vote in favor of it. The one percent tax increase is expected to raise millions of dollars and will be put towards improving the local infrastructure.

“There’s some real good projects on board that we’re going to be doing that I hope will provide better transportation for the city,” Dublin Mayor Phil Best said.

Best is happy the community voted for the tax increase. The one cent penny tax will raise 399 million dollars for the region over the next 10 years.

“I think people saw the need for it in our area and felt like it was a fair tax,” Best said.

Supporters say T-SPLOST will do more than just improve the roadways. It will also create jobs.

“Not only through the construction, but with the improved infrastructure opening up for our industrial recruitment efforts,” Cal Wray, president for the Dublin-Laurens County Development Authority, said.

T-SPLOST means more jobs and better roads. Local leaders call it a win-win situation for the Heart of Georgia region.

“I think they [residents] have looked at it from a logical and business standpoint and said ‘I don’t want to pay taxes but this is a good thing to do it for.”

Residents in Dublin and across the Heart of Georgia region can expect to start paying the one cent penny tax increase on January first of next year.
