Possible Expansion at Ocmulgee National Monument

MACON,Georgia (41NBC/WMGT)- The National park service is looking into whether certain lands in and around Ocmulgee National Monument Park are appropriate to be included in a boundary expansion to the monument. The park sits on 702 acres and is on the National Register of Historic places. A boundary study and environmental assessment will be done to determine if a boundary expansion is appropriate and if so which properties are appropriate for inclusion in an expanded park boundary. A public hearing will be held Thursday to learn more about the possible expansion.

“We will be open from 5pm to 8pm for this public hearing. We will have a presentation at 5:30 to explain what we are doing and then the rest of the evening we will have people around like myself to answer questions, ” said Park Superintendent Jim David. 

The Public Hearing will be held at the Ocmulgee National Monument visitor Center, located at 12-07 Emery Highway.
