MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Middle Georgia State University has topped 10,000 students for the first time in its 142-year history.

MGA says enrollment increased 14% to a record 10,070 students for fall 2026. The university’s previous enrollment record was 8,828 students.

MGA also reported its highest student retention rate in a decade. The rate increased to 67.22%, compared with 62.61% previously.

“Reaching over 10,000 students is a historic milestone for MGA, but just as important is seeing more of those students continue their education with us,” said Dr. Ben Corpus, vice president for Enrollment Management.

The university reported enrollment gains among continuing undergraduate, graduate and dual-enrollment students. Freshman and transfer enrollment remained about as strong as last year, according to MGA.

Students registered for 100,198 credit hours this fall, an increase of nearly 9% compared with the same point last year.

“This record enrollment demonstrates that more students than ever recognize MGA as a place where they can achieve their goals and build a brighter future,” MGA President Dr. Christopher Blake said.

MGA serves students online and at campuses in Macon, Cochran, Dublin, Eastman and Warner Robins. The university offers more than 70 areas of study, including doctoral, master’s, bachelor’s and select associate degree and certificate programs.
