MONTEZUMA, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT)- The City of Montezuma is putting a citywide curfew in place during homecoming weekend later this month.

Mayor Charles J. Ivey announced the curfew in a public safety notice dated October 12.

The curfew will be in effect from midnight to 6 a.m. on Saturday, October 24, and again from midnight to 6 a.m. on Sunday, October 25.

According to the city, large gatherings and loitering will not be allowed within city limits during curfew hours.

Mass gatherings will also not be permitted on business properties or in privately owned business parking lots. The city says roadways within Montezuma may also be blocked.

People traveling during curfew hours must be going directly to or from work or another lawful destination.

The city of Olgethorpe has instituted a similar curfew for its city limits that weekend as well. Local and state authorities will monitor the area during the curfew.

Montezuma officials say the measures are intended to maintain public safety and minimize disturbances during homecoming weekend.
