Woman dies after pickup strikes tractor-trailer on I-75 South in Macon

Firefighters freed the 50-year-old driver after the crash near Hartley Bridge Road. All southbound lanes have reopened.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A 50-year-old woman died after her pickup struck the back of a tractor-trailer on Interstate 75 South Thursday afternoon, according to a news release from the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.

The crash closed all southbound lanes, which have since reopened.

The crash was reported at 1:06 p.m. just before the Hartley Bridge Road exit.

Deputies say the woman was driving a 2019 Ford F-150 south when she applied her brakes for traffic ahead. She was unable to stop and struck the rear of a trailer pulled by a 2023 Freightliner Cascadia.

Macon-Bibb firefighters freed the woman, who was trapped in the pickup. Paramedics took her to a local hospital, where she died from her injuries, according to the release.

The sheriff’s office is withholding her name until her family has been notified. No other injuries were reported.

The collision remains under investigation.
