Two men arrested in Carolyn Crayton Park shooting that injured 12 teens
Jaquez Bailey and David Pitts are both being held without bond.
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Two men have been arrested in connection with the shooting that injured 12 teenagers at Carolyn Crayton Park early Sunday, according to a news release from the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.
The sheriff’s office announced Monday that investigators arrested 20-year-old David Pitts and 20-year-old Jaquez Bailey.
Pitts is charged with 12 counts of aggravated assault as a party to a crime. Bailey is charged with 12 counts of aggravated assault. Both are being held without bond at the Bibb County Jail.
Investigators served search and arrest warrants with assistance from the sheriff’s office’s Violent Crimes, Gang and Drug units, the U.S. Marshals Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force and the FBI. Both men were taken to the Criminal Investigation Division for questioning before being transferred to the jail.
The shooting at Carolyn Crayton Park was reported at 12:06 a.m. on Sunday.
Deputies were responding to a report of gunfire at a large gathering when they learned victims were arriving at a local medical facility in personal vehicles. Investigators initially reported 11 victims before identifying a 19-year-old man who had also been wounded, bringing the total to 12.
Two victims were initially listed in critical condition. The other 10 were listed in stable condition.
During a news conference Sunday, Sheriff David Davis said the gathering began as an 18-year-old girl’s birthday party at an Airbnb in Jones County. The owner told the group to leave after learning people had firearms, Davis said.
The group then gathered near the skate park at Carolyn Crayton Park. Davis said another group arrived and opened fire, and people in the original group fired back.
Davis said Sunday there was no evidence at that time that any of those injured had fired shots.
The investigation remains ongoing.
