State Affairs Georgia to host Macon town hall on Georgia’s pedestrian safety crisis
State Affairs Georgia to host a public discussion on pedestrian deaths and ways to make Georgia’s roads safer.
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – State Affairs Georgia is bringing state leaders, transportation officials, advocates and journalists together in Macon Sunday for a public town hall focused on Georgia’s pedestrian safety crisis.
The “Killed While Crossing” town hall will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. Sept. 20 at the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame.
The discussion will examine the policy, infrastructure and planning decisions that affect pedestrian safety across Georgia, as well as potential solutions to reduce pedestrian deaths and injuries.
The event follows a yearslong investigation by State Affairs Georgia senior Statehouse reporter Beau Evans, whose “Killed While Crossing” series examined the human toll of pedestrian deaths across the state.
41NBC morning news anchor Tyrik Wynn will moderate the discussion.
Panelists include:
State Sen. Kay Kirkpatrick, majority caucus secretary and chairwoman of the Senate Committee on Children and Families
Ron Knezevich, state safety engineering manager with the Georgia Department of Transportation
John Devine, executive director of Go Georgia
Beau Evans, senior Statehouse reporter for State Affairs Georgia and reporter behind the “Killed While Crossing” investigation
The town hall will also include an audience question-and-answer session, giving members of the public an opportunity to engage with the panel.
State Affairs Georgia says the discussion will focus on the challenges facing pedestrians in Georgia and the decisions that can influence roadway safety, including transportation policy, infrastructure and community planning.
The event is free and open to the public, although space is limited.
Media members attending the event can also interview panelists and State Affairs Georgia journalists following the town hall.
