75-year-old Warthen man killed in Highway 15 crash in Washington County

Georgia State Patrol says Charlie Lee Lundy’s side-by-side crossed the centerline and collided with a Jeep on Highway 15.

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — A 75-year-old Warthen man was killed Thursday night when the side-by-side he was driving crossed the centerline of Georgia Highway 15 and collided head-on with a Jeep, according to the Georgia State Patrol.

GSP identified the driver who died as Charlie Lee Lundy.

Troopers responded around 5:49 p.m. to Georgia Highway 15 at Mills Lindsy School Road for a two-vehicle crash with injuries.

GSP says Lundy was driving a 2011 Polaris XP 800 side-by-side south on Highway 15 when he failed to maintain his lane and crossed the centerline.

A 2024 Jeep Wrangler driven by 42-year-old Joseph William Galunas of Roswell was traveling north when the front of the Jeep struck the front of the Polaris.

Lundy was ejected from the Polaris. The Washington County coroner pronounced him dead at the scene.

GSP says the Polaris caught fire after the crash and came to rest in the north ditch. The Jeep overturned before coming to rest upright.

Galunas was taken to Washington County Medical Center for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Washington County Sheriff Joel Cochran said the roadway has reopened.

Georgia State Patrol is investigating the crash.
