Bibb County Sheriff’s Office offering free firearms safety course

Participants must be at least 21 years old, legally able to own a firearm and bring their own firearm and ammunition.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is offering a free firearms safety and training course for residents later this month.

According to the sheriff’s office, the two-day course begins Monday, August 24, at the Sheriff’s Outreach Section Office, located at 774 Hazel St. The second class will be held Tuesday, August 25, at the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office Training Facility, located at 1166 Jackson St.

Both classes will run from 6 to 8 p.m.

During the first day, participants will learn about firearm safety practices, secure firearm storage and current Georgia firearm laws. On the second day, participants will have an opportunity to fire their handguns and ask questions.

Participants must be at least 21 years old, legally able to own a firearm and bring their own firearm and ammunition.

The sheriff’s office said the course is intended for handgun safety and familiarization, and participants should bring handguns only.
