At Bruce Elementary School, the start of the school year also marked a major milestone for new Principal Endirka Okonkwo, who officially welcomed students for her first day leading the school.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The first day of school brought excitement for thousands of students across several Middle Georgia school districts Monday, including those in Bibb County.
Endirka Okonkwo said she was so excited about the occasion that she barely slept the night before, eager to greet students as they returned to the classroom.
She said creating a positive and welcoming environment is her top priority.
“Today is all about the students,” Okonkwo said. “It’s all about making sure that every child that walks through our doors feel welcome, feel loved, supported and excited about learning. Ultimately, it’s about the kids. We have a wonderful faculty and staff here. We are committed to building greatness through excellence every day.”
Students arrived Monday morning to a warm welcome from teachers, staff and volunteers as they kicked off a new academic year.
School leaders say they hope the positive energy from the first day will set the tone for a successful year filled with learning, growth and achievement.
