More heat fills in to Middle Georgia this weekend

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Heat indexes will push into the upper 90s and lower triple digits through this weekend across Middle Georgia.

This Evening

A few isolated storms are likely as the evening goes on around Middle Georgia accompanying what has been a partly cloudy afternoon. It will be a muggier night tonight with all of Middle Georgia likely to remain above 70 degrees in regards to overnight lows. The wind will be light from the southwest around 5 mph. Any residual storms in the evening should taper off before midnight tonight. Some patchy fog will be possible out the door Saturday morning.

Saturday is expected to be partly cloudy with a few isolated storms likely over the latter half of the day. Temperatures should peak in the mid to upper 90s as the wind remains light from the southwest around 5 mph. Those spending time outside should make sure to stay hydrated and apply sunscreen (SPF 30+) several times throughout the day. The UV index is anticipated to be above 11 around the region which translates to under half an hour before burning begins for those unprotected.

Overnight will be mostly clear and muggy with some patchy fog again possible leading into the sunrise hours Sunday morning. Expect overnight lows in the low to mid 70s as the wind remains light from the southwest.

Temperatures will be even hotter Sunday under partly sunny skies as most spots should reach into the upper 90s. A couple of locations may flirt with highs of 100 degrees. Heat indexes will reach triple digits in close to half the region if not more. A few isolated showers and storms will again be possible in the afternoon. The Moon will be full on Sunday night: The Full Strawberry moon is named because this time of year has historically been the peak of the strawberry harvest.

Monday will see higher rain odds and plenty of heat and following that the rain odds will drop while the temperatures and heat indexes remain elevated as the heat wave is expected to be even worse heading into Independence Day Weekend.
