Crews now surveying Macon-Bibb sidewalks for safety issues
CityLogix crews are documenting cracks, trip hazards, uplifts and other sidewalk issues before the county prioritizes future repairs

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — Crews are now surveying sidewalks across Macon-Bibb County as part of an effort to identify safety and accessibility problems.
The work is part of the county’s Paving the Way program, which is expanding from road repaving to sidewalk and accessibility ramp analysis.
Macon-Bibb County contracted with CityLogix in April to assess about 350 miles of sidewalk and more than 7,500 accessibility ramps across the county.
Mayor Lester Miller said the goal is to make the county safer and more accessible.
“We value lives, and we value people that have accessibility issues, and we are putting our money where our mouth is today by starting the first process in inventorying all the sidewalks of Macon-Bibb County,” Miller said.
CityLogix crews are using advanced technology to document sidewalk conditions and identify issues that could make sidewalks unsafe or difficult to use.
“Cracks, trip hazards, lifts, uplifts, we call them in the sidewalks, and then surface distortions, which could cause somebody in a wheelchair or somebody not be able to navigate the sidewalk correctly,” said David Teeters, senior surveyor for CityLogix.
The analysis is expected to be completed by the end of July, weather permitting.
Teeters said the sidewalk issues crews have found so far are typical for older sidewalks.
“Older sidewalks on trip hazards, surface distortions, cracks. It’s very typical. We don’t see anything that’s not typical,” he said.
Once the assessment is complete, Macon-Bibb County says it will use the data to prioritize future sidewalk repairs.
Macon-Bibb also worked with CityLogix to assess 1,100 miles of city-owned paved streets. Since summer 2025, the county says crews have repaved 890 segments of 356 roads, covering 120.1 miles.
