Andrea Cooke takes office as Macon-Bibb County’s new District 5 commissioner, focusing on housing, mental health and community services

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Macon-Bibb County has a new commissioner representing District 5.
Andrea Cooke was officially sworn in Monday, filling the seat left vacant after former commissioner and Mayor Pro Tem Seth Clark resigned.
The swearing-in marks the beginning of Cook’s first term in office after what she described as a long and meaningful journey.
“This has been a long journey, but I feel like it’s one that God called me to do,” Cooke said. “I prayed about it a lot and talked to a lot of neighbors who reassured me that they have faith in me and I have faith in them, so we are going to do this together.”
Cooke says her decision to run for the District 5 seat was rooted in her lifelong commitment to serving others and advocating for her community.
During her campaign, Cooke focused on addressing mental health, improving access to services and tackling affordable housing concerns across Macon-Bibb County.
She says she is ready to get to work and serve residents in a new capacity as commissioner.
