Wilcox County wins second straight girls basketball state championship
Wilcox County beat Washington-Wilkes 48-39 at the Macon Coliseum to secure back-to-back GHSA girls basketball titles.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — The Wilcox County High School Lady Patriots won their second straight state title Thursday, defeating Washington-Wilkes High School 48-39 in the Georgia High School Association Class A Division II girls basketball championship game at the Macon Coliseum.
The win gives the Lady Patriots back-to-back state championships. They beat Washington-Wilkes 72-48 in last year’s title game.
According to records from MaxPreps, Wilcox County finished the current season with a 29-1 record. The team’s only loss came January 3 against Fitzgerald High School.
More Middle Georgia teams playing for state titles on Friday
Two more Middle Georgia teams will take the court Friday at the Macon Coliseum with state championships on the line.
The East Laurens High School girls (27-4, according to MaxPreps) will face Elbert County High School (21-8) at 1 p.m. in the GHSA Class A Division I championship game.
The Southwest High School boys (29-6) will play Rabun County High School (29-2) at 3 p.m. in the GHSA Class A Division I final.
